IMBOKODO SUPPORT FOR RESTORATIVE JUSTICE AND REINTEGRATION

Restorative Justice Integration in Communities

We facilitate the integration of offenders back to the communities. We engage the parties in the community where the conflict occurred and facilitate the reunion of all individuals involved (victims, offenders, families, & community members).

Victim Offender Dialogue & Mediation

Imbokodo assists with Victim Offender Dialogue (VOD). This is a process in which the victim of a crime, or the surviving family members, and the offender who committed the offense meet face-to face in a safe and secure setting. Victim-offender mediation (VOM) provides interested victims the opportunity to meet their offenders in a safe and structured setting.

Restorative Practise (Schools  Counselling)

Imbokodo provides counseling services to several schools in Gauteng. We advise, contain, and refer. Because bullying is a psychosocial issue in schools, we help by facilitating anti-bullying programs and conducting bullying workshops, that help both the bully and the bullied.

Working in correctional facilities from 2009 to date

lmbokodo collaborated with DCS in facilitating correctional programes

Our interventions include: facilitating behavior changing programmes, conducting one-on-one interviews with offenders, tracing victims and conducting live VOD sessions with offenders and victims’ families. Imbokodo’s work focuses on individuals, victims and their families, offenders and communities. We work to reintegrate offenders back into their communities, this includes educating communities on the reintegration process. We all know crime is a societal responsibility.

GET IN TOUCH

The primary objective of reintegration is to provide offenders with the assistance and supervision that they may need to desist from crime, to successfully reintegrate into the community and to avoid a relapse into criminal behavior. The implementation of rehabilitation and reintegration programmes provide an opportunity for offenders to connect with their families and community and to live a productive and law-abiding life. It is vital to create a conducive environment within communities for the successful reintegration of parolees and probationers which entails various services and programmes, and awareness campaigns to educate the community about the rehabilitation of parolees and probationers will contribute to the reduction of reoffending and minimize challenges associated with incarceration.
